FCM’s Green Municipal Fund (GMF) provides loans and grants, builds capacity, and shares knowledge to support municipal governments and their partners in developing communities that are more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

The purpose of this program is to encourage the development and marketing of ethanol and methanol made from biomass. This program provides a 100 percent exemption from the $0.10/L federal excise gas tax on gasoline for ethanol and methanol made from biomass that is blended with gasoline. The Ethanol Production Grant will run for a total of eight years. For the first two years (2008 & 2009), Manitoba ethanol producers will receive 20¢/litre of ethanol produced and sold in Manitoba to fuel suppliers, followed by 15¢/litre for the next three years (2010-2012), and 10¢/litre for the remaining three years (2013-2015) of the incentive program.

Manitoba Hydro's Commercial Building Envelope Program provides incentives to encourage building owners to install energy efficient windows and insulation into their commercial buildings.

The Custom Measures program works with energy efficient projects that are not included in any of the existing Power Smart programs. Financial incentives are given for completion of an approved feasibility study as well as incentives towards annual electricity and natural savings.

Chillers typically consume more electricity than any other single energy-consuming device in a large commercial building. In addition, provincial environmental legislation designed to eliminate the release of CFCs and other ozone-depleting substances may prohibit the overhaul of an existing system, making chiller replacement the only option. Incentives are available for chiller replacements and variable speed drive retrofits.

The Power Smart Commercial Refrigeration Program promotes energy efficient equipment upgrades and no cost/low cost operation and maintenance measures for retail stores and restaurants. These measures will help you save energy and money. Rebates available for display cases, walk-in boxes and mechanical rooms.

The Commercial Earth Power Program provides financial incentives to customers who install a geothermal heat pump system to replace a conventional electric heating system. To be eligible for financial incentives, customers must have their project pre-approved by Manitoba Hydro before any portion of the system is purchased or installed.

Let us install an energy efficient pre-rinse valve to reduce your water and energy bills, while still getting dishes as clean as before. Manitoba Hydro’s Rinse and Save Program will send out qualified installers to replace your existing spray valves with energy efficient spray valves, free of charge.

The program promotes energy efficiency through the optimization of three phase electrical power end-use systems including compressed air, pumps and fans, industrial refrigeration, process heating, electro-chemical processes and plant-wide energy management systems. The result is lower operating costs and improved system performance.

This custom program promotes energy efficiency through the optimization of process related natural gas-fired equipment and systems. Technical support and financial incentives are offered for feasibility studies as well as implementation.

The SDIF provides funding for the development, implementation and promotion of environmental innovation and sustainable development projects delivered by local governments, industry, community and youth groups, Aboriginal organizations, and First Nation communities. Grants are provided through several priority program areas. Proposed projects must address one or more priority area and achieve or demonstrate measurable progress toward achieving the fund`s objectives. They must also be environmentally and ecologically sound, promote a sustainable approach, have clear environmental benefits and take into account benefits to the community and the economy. Projects should also demonstrate the involvement of youth where possible.

The Government of Canada has created the Freight Technology Incentive Program for the purpose of providing cost-shared funding to companies and non-profit organizations in freight transportation to help them to purchase and install proven emission-reducing technologies.

Natural Resources Canada`s (NRCan`s) ecoENERGY Retrofit program is designed to help industrial facilities overcome financial barriers to improving the energy efficiency of their operations.

The initiative will provide operating incentives to producers of renewable alternatives to gasoline and diesel based on production levels and other factors. It will make investment in production facilities more attractive by partially offsetting the risk associated with fluctuating feedstock and fuel prices.

Provides the freight transportation industry with cost shared funding for real world testing of freight transportation technologies that have the potential to reduce the emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases (GHG).

Provides incentives for solar water and air installations in the industrial, commercial and institutional sectors; helps develop renewable thermal energy industry capacity; and contributes to clean air by displacing fossil fuel-based energy use for space heating and cooling and water heating.

Increases supply of clean electricity from low-impact renewable sources such as wind, biomass, hydro, geothermal, solar photovoltaic and ocean energy through a production incentive of one cent per kilowatt-hour over ten years on eligible projects.

Provides a financial incentive to help industrial companies conduct process integration studies that identify opportunities for increasing energy efficiency and improving production processes.
