Calculators: Lawn and Garden Care

The Lawn and Garden Care Calculator uses the information you provide about your mower and fertilizer usage to determine emissions resulting from the care of your lawn and garden.

Please download the Community Led Emissions Reductcion (CLER) Calculator Guidance Document to learn more about how this calculator calculates CO2 emissions.

Step 1: Provide Your Lawn Size

A typical city lot in Canada will range from 3,000 to 6,000 square feet.

What is the area of your lawn?
square feet

Step 2: Select Your Lawn Mower Type

What type of lawn mower do you have?

Step 3: Provide Average Number of Mows per Year

Approximately how many times a year do you mow your lawn?

Step 4: Provide Amount of Fertilizer Used per Year

Approximately how many kilograms of fertilizer do you use per year?
kg

Step 5: Provide Your Fertilizers' Nitrogen Level

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) are the three major nutrients needed by lawns. Nitrogen is the nutrient required most. Percent nitrogen (by weight) is always the first of three numbers on the fertilizer bag, followed by phosphorus and potassium. For example, 18-6-12 fertilizer contains 18% nitrogen.

What is the nitrogen level of the fertilizer you use on your lawn?
%
