Calculators: Household Waste Generation

The Waste Calculator can determine emissions resulting from waste sent to landfill, waste that is recycled, and in the case of organics (such as food scraps or yard waste) composted.

Please download the Community Led Emissions Reductcion (CLER) Calculator Guidance Document to learn more about how this calculator calculates CO2 emissions.

Step 1: Provide Waste Sent to Landfill

The amount of waste sent to landfill has a large impact on your waste management emissions. For ease of estimation, this calculator accepts the number of bags or boxes put out on the curb for collection. The average family of four generates 1.5 bags of waste per week (each bag weighing approximately 15kg).
